Cradle-to-Cradle Packaging Solutions from Dordan Mfg. Co. Inc. Global warming, renewable energy and emissions reduction are all part of our every day concerns. At Dordan Mfg. Co. Inc. we are making continuous improvements in all areas relating to improving the environment. Here is a recent list of just a few of the improvements we have made. -We have replaced the 88 Metal Halide light fixtures in our factory that each used 455 watts of electricity, with 88 Fluorescent fixtures that each use 176 watts, for a total electrical savings of 150,250 kilowatt-hours per year. This represents a reduction of approximately 150 tons of CO2 per year being released into the atmosphere. -All of our internal scrap plastic is reground at our facility and returned to the manufacturers of plastic sheet and rolls to be recycled and remanufactured as useable plastic sheets or rolls, or in the case of PVC, sold to scrap brokers who then sell to pvc pipe, siding and deck manufactures. -All of our scrap aluminum is collected internally and returned to our aluminum suppliers where it is recycled back into useable aluminum blocks or sheets. -We use pressed wood pallets instead of traditional wood pallets. Pressed wood pallets weigh 50% less than traditional wood pallets and because they nest during shipment and storage they also require 50% less space. This translates into roughly a 50% reduction in the number of trucks needed to transport our skids to us. A 50% reduction in trucks results in a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions. -55% of the packaging items we manufacture are made from RPET or RPETG. RPET or RPETG are considered to be some of the most “sustainable” materials available to plastics manufacturers as they already contain a high level of Post Consumer or Post Industrial recycled content. The RPET we use to create these packages contains a minimum of 50-70% Post Consumer regrind material and the RPETG we use contains up to 100% Post Industrial regrind material.
